When the sun is shining, Britain is in our slightly biased opinion a fantastic choice for a holiday. So go and explore the Great British outdoors and tick these must-see attractions off your Northern British Summer bucket list.
Discover world class archaeology this Summer and explore the Roman Ancient monument that is Hadrian's Wall. This hikers dream has spectacular landscapes, rare wildlife and historical artefacts. Built by a force of 15,000 men in 117AD to separate the Romans from the Barbarians, Hadrian's Wall spans over 80 miles from the East coast to the West coast. Keen walkers can follow the course of the wall from Newcastle upon Tyne to Carlisle, then along the northern coast of Cumbria.
Explore the beautiful Tatton Hall, located in 1,000 acres of the most magnificent deer park. This National Trust owned estate boasts glorious gardens, a working farm and a neo-classical mansion. The elegant mansion house was owned by the wealthy Egerton family up until 1958 when it was bequeathed by the National Trust. The award-winning gardens are a must visit attraction this Summer, wander peacefully around the Japanese garden or have a picnic in Tatton’s parkland surrounded by deer, there’s even a lake to cool off in on a hot Summer’s day. Just twenty minutes south of Manchester, it’s the perfect day trip when staying with us at Hallmark Hotel Manchester or Manchester Inn (Willow Bank).
Put on your walking boots and hike along one of Britain’s finest panoramic coastal paths. The Ayrshire Coastal Path runs 100 miles from Gelnapp to Skelmorie and offers a varied landscape, from the epic Scottish mountains to the breath-taking ocean views. With over 135 species of bird listed, wonderful wild flowers and seals, otters and foxes, the path is a wildlife fanatic’s dream. Ayrshire has a vast range of historical sites such as the Maritime Museum in Irvine, which is situated along the route.
4. Humber Bridge Country Park
Explore the nature trails of Humber Bridge Country Park, set alongside the Humber Estuary and overlooking the iconic Humber Bridge, this park has various short trails around the reserve, taking visitors from woodland through to meadows surrounded by butterflies and poolside habitats. Beaming with wildlife, this country park is perfect for a Summer hike. Our favourite trail is the Cliff Trail, also known as Little Switzerland due to its chalk cliff terraces resembling miniature snow covered Alps. You can make it a short Summer holiday break by staying at our Hallmark Hotel Hull.
This is one not to miss off your list, Chester Zoo is the UK’s number one wildlife attraction. With 20,000 animals it’s one of the UK’s much loved attractions and a very popular television topic, appearing on shows such as The Secret Life of The Zoo and Our Zoo. This award-winning zoological garden is home to over 500 different species from the charismatic meerkats to the highly intelligent elephants. As well as looking at these beautiful creatures, you can learn something from the informative talks about animal conservation. A great day out for all the family when staying with us in Chester.
Check out the beautiful scenery of Loch Lomand, just twenty minutes out of the cultural city of Glasgow. Loch Lomand provides serene tranquility amongst vast expanse of mountains, water and countryside. It’s great for outdoor activities and has something for everyone from walking to climbing to even trying your hand at paddle boarding. We recommend hiring a boat and enjoying Scotland’s great outdoors!

Liverpool’s UNESCO world heritage site stretches along the waterfront from Albert Dock through to The Pier Head up to the magnificent St George’s Hall. The city was granted the title in July 2004 as Liverpool is a Maritime Mercantile city. The best way to take in this world famous attraction is by taking a ferry across the mersey with Mersey Ferries.
Enjoy a fun day out with all the family at the UK’s most ride intensive theme park. Blackpool Pleasure Beach has something for everyone, from thrilling rides to spectacular shows. After 120 years of being open and still going strong, it’s no wonder why Blackpool has always been a popular destination for British family holidays. It makes for the perfect day trip when staying with us in Leyland.
You can’t visit Aberdeen without taking a trip to the Royal family favourite, the magnificent Balmoral Castle. Take in the beautiful scenery of this Royal Estate set in the Scottish Highlands.
