Lacey Allen and Carys Fellows (10) from Barnwood, Gloucester enjoyed an afternoon with a professional illustrator earlier this week to have their own story brought to life before their very eyes, after they were announced as overall winners in Hallmark Hotels’ UK wide story telling competition.
Julian Stelfox, known for illustrating children’s favourite Meet The Tractors, prepared pictures to accompany the pair’s story ‘Pixies Mystical Adventures in the Hallmark Hotel’ for a special bedtime story book, which will be printed and made available to all Hallmark Hotel guests before the end of the year. Lacey, Carys and their families also enjoyed high tea as part of this exclusive winner event, at Hallmark Hotel The Welcombe in Stratford-Upon-Avon.
Lacey and Carys’ success follows the launch of Hallmark Hotels Storytelling campaign in January which saw over 70 creative story entries from children aged between 6-15 years from all four corners of the country. The aspiring writers have also won £50 worth of Waterstones vouchers and a hotel stay for all the family.
Lacey and Carys’ six-chapter short story tells the adventure of friendly fairy, Pixie and new pal, Buddy as they set out to make guests of a nearby Hallmark Hotel’s dreams come true.
Speaking of their national competition win and events of the day, Lacey and Carys said: “We found the competition during a sleepover and decided to write a story and enter together. We feel very proud about winning and are surprised and excited all at the same time.
“We absolutely love the illustrations that Julian has created, they really have brought our story to life.”
Parents of Lacey and Carys, who accompanied them on the trip, said: “We are local to a Hallmark Hotel and we were excited to come across the competition. Discovering they were shortlisted was exciting enough but to now know the girls are the winners of the whole competition, well it’s amazing”.
Debbie Neate, Head of Marketing at Hallmark Hotels said: “The team were thrilled to host Lacey and Carys. They are thoroughly deserving winners and we are so excited to get this book out to all our hotels in the very near future.”
