If you’re currently planning your wedding perhaps you’ve been wondering whether a winter wedding might be right for you?
Lucy Jackson-Woolley, Wedding Co-ordinator from Hallmark Hotel Hull shares with us her top reasons why winter weddings are a winner:
“As surprising as it may sound, the weather is one of the top reasons my winter brides opt for this time of year. Whether it’s the chance of magical snowfall or the prospect of the crispest, brightest blue sky, winter weather in the UK can be truly beautiful. Here at Hallmark Hotel Hull we’re not known as ‘The Venue with the View’ for nothing; we have a fantastic vista onto the Humber Bridge which looks breath-taking sprinkled with snow. It’s also worth considering that snow on your wedding day is traditionally considered a sign of prosperity and fertility. And, as we all know - opting for a summertime wedding in the UK is no guarantee of good weather!
“Be honest: how many summer weddings have you been to? If you want your big day to really stand out from the crowd in the minds of your guests, hosting a winter wedding is a great way to make the celebration distinctive. The contrast of tea lights, fireworks and lanterns against the low light of winter makes for insta-friendly wedding day photos and ensures there’s no prospect of your big day merging with other ceremonies in anyone’s memory.
“Winter weddings are also a sure-fire way to reduce planning headaches. Firstly, you’ll have the pick of venue availability for what is considered an out-of-season wedding which also means you can get married sooner if that’s what you want. What’s more, being a quieter time of the year means your venue may be able to make you a more appealling wedding package offer. Finally, if you hold your wedding around the festive season, including Twixmas weddings (between Christmas and New Year) many of your guests will already be planning to be off work relaxing, so they’ll be easier to mobilise for your celebration.
“In your wedding venue search you’ll find that certain venues lend themselves more readily to a winter wedding. While barns and marquees may be popular in the summer, when the temperatures drop you’ll find that keeping all aspects of the big day in one spot will keep a smile on everyone’s face. I think this is part of the reason we see so much interest in winter weddings at Hallmark Hotel Hull - a hotel venue lets you host a pre-wedding dinner, enjoy your make-up and hair appointments on the morning of the big day, your wedding ceremony, wedding breakfast and evening reception before retiring with your new spouse to the bridal suite - all without stepping out of the front door if you so wish!
And if all of this wasn’t enough to convince you, bear in mind that when you and your spouse want to plan anniversary getaways in future years you’ll enjoy fantastic hotel winter offers at great prices, so there’s no excuse for you not to celebrate... all over again!
