Here are our best ideas to keep the kids happy for their Winter break:
Get into nature
It’s tempting to hideout indoors this February half term but Winter is definitely a time to be outside and exploring. With the trees changing colour, mountains of leaves waiting to be trampled through, and beautiful, shiny conkers ready to reward intrepid prospectors, there’s no better time of the year to be down in your local park. The weather can always throw a spanner in the works, but if you encourage the kids to put on a woolly hat and pull on their wellington boots, you can be sure your young explorers will be ready to discover the world outdoors.
The half-term holidays are a perfect time to get the aprons on and get messy. Whether your children are budding Picassos or fancy themselves as the next Gordon Ramsay, kids love to get creative with their parents. If art is their thing, try to incorporate bits of your trip to the park into the session. You can try making collages with leaves you have collected, or use poster paints to decorate stones you have found. Maybe the kids have been inspired by the Great British Bake Off? If so, why not try making buns or decorating cup cakes with them? Whatever they fancy, there is an artistic activity for them, and you might enjoy it more than you expect yourself!
Museums have changed a great deal in the last few years. Not only are they bright, modern, and interactive, they are now almost all free. There are museums for all sorts of tastes these days, whether your kids are into sports, science or history, and many of them will run special events during the half-term holidays, so there are even more reasons to get your kids excited about learning.
Half-term breaks are the perfect time to get the kids into sports, with many leisure centres running week-long holiday camps for kids. Whether they want to hone their skills in something they already know, or learn something completely different, holiday sessions are ideal for kids to get active and make new friends. It’s also the perfect solution if you can’t get the week off work, as you know the kids will be entertained and supervised for the time you can’t be there.
Get with friends
This may be one of your only periods off work, so it needs to be a time that’s fun for you too. A great idea is to hang out with any other friends who have children a similar age to your own. That way, you can organise things to keep everyone’s kids happy, while also giving you the chance to catch up with friends you might not otherwise see. This is the ideal solution to make half-term a week that works for everyone. With so many ideas from Hallmark Hotels, half-term will be a walk in the park – perhaps literally!
