Hotel: Hallmark Hotel Warrington
ARRIVAL (How was your welcome?)
The restaurant is located just off the reception area of the hotel. We waited a few minutes to be greeted and were shown to our table. We asked if we could have a different table, as we wanted a table against the wall, and this was not a problem. Our server asked us whether we had visited before, and she explained the menu and what the soup of the day was. Our server Shaunna was pleasant, friendly and welcomed us to the restaurant.
Scottish Hot Smoked Mackerel
Upon ordering the dish the waitress advised me that it was a cold salad, as some people got confused with 'hot' being in the title of the dish. My starter was presented nicely and the flavours worked well together. I would have liked to have seen more mackerel in the dish, as there were only 6 small pieces. The dish also said that it contained creme fraiche, but as far as I am aware this wasn't included.
Peppery dusted whitebait
My mum chose the whitebait. The waitress informed us that the fish would be complete with eyes, and this was not a problem for my mum. The whitebait was delicious, and there was a good helping of tartare sauce. The starter was a generous helping and my mum struggled to finish it off.
Hallmark Sirloin Steak
I was really impressed with the thickness and size of my steak. I had it cooked medium, and it was cooked to perfection. The steak was tender, tasty and full of flavour. The chips were also delicious, and are up there with some of the best chips I have tasted in a restaurant. I ordered the peppercorn sauce with my steak, which complimented the dish perfectly.
The Captain Burger
My mum ordered the Captain Burger which I was really surprised at as she doesn't normally eat burgers. She really enjoyed the meal and said the chicken was full of flavour as it was coated in the green chilli ketchup. The chicken was of good quality and filled the bun. Like me, she really enjoyed the chips, and the coleslaw was creamy and very tasty. Her meal was presented on a wooden board which she liked, as it was something different.
I went for the banana split, which to be honest I thought I was never going to finish as it was a good portion. But I managed to polish it off and it was lovely. The ice cream was amazing, and I loved everything about this dessert. The banana was also fresh, and I forgot how much I enjoy banana splits.
Classic Lemon Tart
My mum ordered the classic lemon tart, which was a really light dessert. After two courses the last thing she wanted was a heavy dessert, and she was really impressed with how light the tart was. The pastry was also light, and the scoop of ice cream was creamy and mouthwatering.
My mum ordered a glass of wine with her meal which was light and refreshing. My Pepsi was served in the correct glass with just the right amount of ice. We had two coffees to finish off the meal, and it was nice to be offered the choice of hot or cold milk.
Our server, Shaunna was attentive, friendly and looked after us well during the evening. She went out of her way to explain how the whitebait was served, after she explained that the fish would have its eyes intact. There were several other servers in the restaurant, and they all seemed to be working hard and interacting with the other customers well.
The restaurant was mainly solo guests who I presume were staying at the hotel on business. The atmosphere was relaxed throughout the evening, and it was nice to see the tables had candles on them, which gave a warm glow around the restaurant. There was also background music which was nice, as without it I think the restaurant would have been fairly quiet.
My mum and I really enjoyed our evening at the Hallmark Hotel in Warrington, and thank you for organising our booking for us.
