Laura's Weekend In Stratford Upon Avon
Knowing how much I love Stratford upon Avon I absolutely could not wait for this weekend in Stratford Upon Avon and, wow, what a weekend it was. Driving up the driveway and seeing the stunning building in front of me, I knew I was in for a treat. After dropping our bags in the room I couldn't wait to get back outside into the gorgeous sunshine and explore what this beautiful hotel had to offer.
A weekend in Stratford Upon AvonWe started in the Italian gardens and found ourselves overlooking the golf course with views that stretch for miles. We decided to hit a few balls on the driving range and it's safe to say I need a bit more practice, however, when it came to the putting green I think all those family holidays playing crazy golf paid off, beating Andy 6-3. We then hit the spa facilities which were so, so relaxing. There you will find a vitality pool, indoor swimming pool, foot spas and 4 different types of rooms to relax, a jacuzzi and their heated loungers. Once we felt super relaxed we got ourselves ready and made the 5-minute drive to Stratford upon Avon town centre for some dinner. Day two was jam packed with some amazing activities that Stratford upon Avon has to offer, starting with some rowing on the river. It really is such a peaceful way to start the day (unless your navigator isn't concentrating and you run into the river bank). Then it was the butterfly farm which is so cute and a great place for all ages. After watching in awe of the beautiful colours flying around me I realised I had one stuck to my leg and wasn't going anywhere - I think I made a new friend. Finally, it was off to visit three of the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust properties which really is a highlight and must do while you're in Stratford, especially if you love all things Shakespeare and history. Shakespeare is at the heart and soul of Stratford and visiting the properties really brings it all to life. The first property we went to was Shakespeare's Birthplace itself which is in the town centre, where you’ll find live performances in the courtyard, then we saw Anne Hathaway's cottage which was a 7-minute drive away, you’ll also find a lovely woodland to explore. Finally, it was onto Mary Arden's Farm where we got to watch a gorgeous barn owl display. You can see other birds of prey too, with presentations and fun activities put on for you to attend and join in by the hour. And what a way to finish the day but with dinner at the award winning Trevelyan in the hotel, and I can see why, and even better you have a gorgeous view from the restaurant, of the terrace and gardens. Day three was short and sweet but we couldn’t leave without playing a spot of tennis on the courts in the hotel, it's definitely been a few years since I've held a racquet so we stuck to a friendly match. We even got the football out for a few penalties! Thank you so much to Hallmark Hotels, The Welcombe for such an activity filled and truly scrumptious weekend in Stratford Upon Avon.
