How to warm up on your way to the gym
Before starting a gym workout, it’s really important to warm up. Remember that your routine can start on the way to the gym. Spending all day sitting in an office in front of a computer means that your muscles will not be stretched. If you then go to the gym and immediately start a high-intensity workout involving lifting heavy weights or running as fast as you can on a machine, you are in danger overstraining or damaging your muscles. You need to warm up by doing low-intensity exercises. Gentle jogging is ideal. If you don’t have to travel too far, then why not jog to the gym? If arriving by car, spend a few minutes jogging round the gym car park. While jogging, periodically exaggerate the backswing so that your heels come up to your buttocks. Another good warming up exercise to try on your way to the gym is to walk briskly using long strides, keeping your front knee over or just behind your toes. Then, lower your body by dropping the back knee towards the ground. Keep the stomach muscles tight and the upper body straight. Before entering the gym, do some standing stretches. Swing your arms both up and down and crossed in front of your chest. Then do some shoulder circles, moving your shoulders towards your ears in a circular motion.
