Set a budget and stick to it
As the excitement builds, it’s very easy for your costs to spiral out of control, so make sure that you and your partner have a budget in mind. Many couples choose a figure and then give themselves leeway of around 10%, just in case they stumble upon any ‘must haves’.
Venues and menus
Consider the time of year and the likely weather conditions when deciding where your celebration will take place. Of course, cooperative weather is never a given in Britain, so make sure there is at least some shelter and shade if you have it outdoors.
Check that your venue is able to cater to all your guests as well. Be adventurous with the menu if you like, but give people a safe option, and check for any dietary needs among your guests.
Do your research
Some couples like to hire a planner to do the legwork, but if you go it alone, make careful choices of your photographer, florist, and any entertainment. Often, word of mouth and personal recommendations can help make sound decisions.
Practice makes perfect
Lastly, be sure to do at least one rehearsal of your wedding. However thoroughly you plan, you never quite know how things are going to go on the day unless you do a realistic trial.
