Here’s To The Queen On Her 90th Birthday
Lets start with wishing her Royal Majesty a Happy Birthday! To mark her special 90th birthday we thought we would take a step back in time and take a look at the records that our longest-reigning monarch has broken in her 63 years on the throne.
1. Oldest Monarch
With it being the first of her two birthdays, (wouldn’t you have two birthday’s if you could). Today is her actual birthday and in June she will celebrate an official birthday with a whole host of events around the country. Turning 90 today makes her our oldest monarch, beating the previous oldest monarch, Queen Victoria who died when she was 81.
This year, the Queen broke the record for being the longest-reigning monarch with over 63 years on the throne. The previous record was held by her great-great-grandmother, Queen Victoria, who reigned for 63 years and 216 days until her death in 1901. During the Queen’s record-breaking reign there have been 12 British Prime Ministers, seven Roman Catholic popes and 8,728 episodes of Coronation Street - one of the Queens favourite television shows.
The Queen is rather well travelled, she has travelled the world more than any other king or queen! Her majesty has visited 116 countries during 265 official visits We wonder if she plans on staying with us next time she’s travelling around the UK!
4. Longest Royal Marriage
As a huge fan of all things wedding-related, this is our favourite record the queen has broke. Our majesty and the Duke of Edinburgh have been married for 68 years. The couple wed at Westminster Abbey on November 20 1947 when the queen was then Princess Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh was Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten.
Being the head of state of 16 Commonwealth states gives her majesty the honour of holding the record for the most countries with her portrait on the coinage. Even countries where she is no longer queen, still use currency featuring her face. It would be nice to have your face
And last but not least, we can’t forget that her majesty is a bit of an adrenalin junky! Remember the time she jumped out of a plane with James Bond for the opening ceremony of the olympics!
Our Royal Majesty really is a special lady, here is to her and her breaking many more records! Keep an eye on our social pages to find out about the official celebrations that will be taking place across the country in June.
