Romantic weekend getaways
As Shakespeare’s birthplace, seeing one of the Bard’s plays in Stratford-upon-Avon is perfect for star-struck lovers and hopeless romantics.
The Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) has been based by the bank of the River Avon in Stratford since the 19th century. You can take a guided tour of the building’s three theatres, enjoy stunning views over the river from the Theatre Tower, enjoy a bite to eat at the superb Rooftop restaurant, and, of course, catch a play. Find out what’s on here.
Hallmark Hotel Stratford-upon-Avon The Welcombe is a Grade II listed neo-Jacobean mansion flanked by 157 acres of landscaped grounds and within easy reach of the RSC. Nestled in the Cotswold countryside and with the tremendous Trevelyan restaurant onsite, it’s a gorgeous place for couples to rest and relax.
We also have a total of seven spa hotels that are ideal for mini breaks. Located in a city recently voted one of the UK’s most romantic, Hallmark Hotel Cambridge boasts an indoor swimming pool, sauna, steam room, and a range of revitalising treatments for couples to choose from.
Our energising escape spa break is specially put together for lovebirds. The package includes two 30-minute treatments or one 60-minute treatment each, full use of all the leisure and spa facilities, lunch, a delicious three-course meal, and cooked breakfast each morning of your stay.
Cheap family holidays
Renowned for its contribution to culture, Manchester is a popular destination for budget family breaks. With something for everyone, most of the city’s best museums are free to enter and offer a great way to learn something new.
The National Football Museum is a special place for sport-mad families. Under-fives can enjoy playing dress up in the Discovery Zone. Plus, there are seven interactive exhibitions across the museum that allow you to test your footy skills. Highlights include a penalty shootout, lifting some of the beautiful game’s most famous trophies, and calling the action for the Match Of The Day Commentary Challenge.
Manchester Museum has plenty of opportunities for kids to get up close to exhibits that span several millennia, from Ancient Egypt to the endangered Lemur leaf frog. The museum also runs family events throughout the year, including autism-friendly early openings and the Science Spectacular.
The CBBC Interactive Tour at MediaCityUK is free to Blue Peter badge holders. Children can go behind the scenes of their favourite shows and even have a go at being a presenter. The tour takes place in a working studio, so you might bump into a celebrity as you walk around.
Hallmark Inn Manchester is a budget hotel with comfy rooms, free access to super-fast Wi-Fi, and 24-hour room service, making it a good choice for cheap family holidays. To help you make the most of your winter break, two children under the age of 12 can stay for free when sharing a room with two adults.
Winter is one of the best times of year for lacing up your walking boots and getting back in touch with nature. The shorter daylight hours, the changing colours and the low sun provide the ideal backdrop for taking incredible photos.
We have hotels handily located near some of the best walks in the UK. Hallmark Hotel Carlisle sits on the doorstep of the Lake District and our three hotels in Derby offer an excellent base for exploring the Peak District.
Our two-night walking breaks allow you to trek across the luscious lake or dramatic peaks for less. This package includes a full breakfast each morning, complimentary water and snacks for your daily expedition, and a delicious dinner on your first evening.

Winter city breaks
Chester is one of the UK’s most beautiful cities, and its historic streets, amazing architecture and unique attractions make it a must-visit.
Its Roman walls are the best preserved in Britain and still circle a two-mile route around the modern-day city. Built using striking red sandstone, the structure’s footpath presents panoramic views of the castle, cathedral and the world famous Eastgate Clock, which looks even more charming in colder weather.

Chester Rows is the oldest shopping frontage in England. Consisting of black and white half-timbered galleries that run the length of four streets in the heart of the city, the ‘rows’ offer a unique seasonal shopping experience.
Running for a month between 23 November and 23 December, The Lanterns at Chester Zoo creates a festive wonderland full of magic. During these cold winter evenings, the zoo is filled with animal illuminations, tasty food, Father Christmas, and festive joy that will leave you feeling warm inside.
Situated in the centre of the city, Hallmark Hotel Chester The Queen is one of our most elegant hotels. A magnificent brick and stucco Italianate hotel first opened in 1860, it’s entertained the likes of Charles Dickens and has an award-winning double AA Rosette restaurant, the Kings’ Grill.
