Five steps to the perfect golf swing
Golf is one of the few sports that transcend both business and leisure, but whatever the occasion, you want your swinging technique to be pitch perfect. Here are five steps to the perfect golf swing:
1. Get a grip
The first mistake many novice golfers make is that they don’t hold their club correctly. Make sure your weaker hand is higher up than your stronger one. As you look down at the club, you should be able to see the knuckles of your index and middle fingers on that hand. Now place your stronger hand underneath, and you’re holding your club correctly.
2. Stance significance
Next, you need to look at the way you’re standing. Stand side on while facing the green, and keep your feet apart by roughly the width of your shoulders. Bend your knees and hips, but keep your back straight. Relax, but don’t slouch!
3. Shoulder the responsibility
Some players make a hash of their long-distance drives because they arc their club behind their body. Instead, raise it over your shoulder. This should help you achieve a more consistently satisfying thwack of the ball, rather than a dismal scuff.
4. The swing of things
When performing the perfect golf swing itself, do it in one swift motion and keep your eye on the ball. Some players allow their glance to drift over to the head of their club, often resulting in an ‘air shot’.
5. Follow through
If you’re looking to gain distance, don’t stop your swing dead once you connect with the ball. Follow through with your club, and maintain the stance you perfected earlier.
