The best Christmas markets 2018
Put on your Santa hat, wrap up warm, and gorge on mulled and mince pies. Dotted all over the country, Christmas markets are one of the best festive family days out you can enjoy. Perfect for an overnight stay or weekend break, we’ve picked three Hallmark Hotel destinations with seasonal markets that will help end your year on a high.
Christmas markets in Manchester
Shoppers recently named Manchester the best city in the UK for Christmas markets. Running from 9 November to 22 December, Albert Square, King Street, and Cathedral Gardens are three of the best.
Albert Square is a quintessential European market, selling everything from handcrafted gifts to amber jewellery. King Street is a French market, where you can pick up a wonderful selection of cheeses, baguettes, and cold meats. And Cathedral Garden is a family favourite and home to the Ice Village, which features an ice bar, frozen toy factory, and Santa’s grotto.
Hallmark Inn Manchester South is a comfortable budget hotel situated just a short taxi ride from the city centre, where all three markets are based. Providing access to super-fast Wi-Fi, 24-hour room service, and a filling breakfast buffet, it’s a great base from which to explore the city’s festivities.
Chester Christmas market
Held in a beautiful square under the spires of a cathedral and surrounding a giant sparkling tree, markets don’t get much more Christmassy than Chester’s.
Running from November 16 to December 22, Chester Christmas Market includes over 70 wooden chalets selling a wide range of unique gifts and stocking fillers.
During the market’s run, Chester Cathedral will be running a programme of seasonal events, including carol performances and the hugely popular Christmas Tree Festival. After you’ve finished looking around the market, don’t forget to check out Chester Rows, a two-tiered shopping arcade that was built in the Middle Ages.
We have two hotels in Chester, Hallmark Hotel Chester, The Queen, and Hallmark Inn Chester. Both locations are within easy walking distance of the city centre and The Queen has an award-winning double AA Rosette restaurant, where you can sit down for a delicious meal after a busy day’s shopping.
Christmas markets in Glasgow
Glasgow’s acclaimed Christmas markets cover two sites this year: St Enoch Square and George Square. Whether you're looking for Yuletide entertainment, one-of-a-kind presents or something tasty to eat, you’ll find it here.
Open every day until December 23, the market at St Enoch Square comprises of over 50 chalets selling festive treats, artisan goods and global cuisine. George Square’s Christmas market is open until December 29 and includes street entertainment for children, plus a traditional carousel and big wheel adorned with fairy lights.
Located in the heart of the city, Hallmark Hotel Glasgow is located less than a 20-minute walk from both markets. We’re also one of the few centrally located hotels with an indoor pool, state-of-the-art gym and spa facilities, allowing you to relax and recharge after a day’s adventure.
