A day out in London's Chigwell area
One corner of Essex's so-called 'Golden Triangle', Chigwell might be familiar to you as the home of television favourites like ‘Birds of a Feather’, ‘Essex Wives’ and even some of the TOWIE stars. Go a bit deeper though, and Chigwell is a place that rewards all who take the time to get to know it properly – not just those with a fondness for the box!
Chigwell is home to some of the Premier League's top stars, and one reason for this is its proximity to White Hart Lane, home of Tottenham Hotspur FC. Any day out in the area should include a bus journey down to this Mecca of football. If you are in Chigwell on a match day, a visit to see ‘The Lillywhites’ guarantees one of the liveliest football experiences in the country, with the chance to see world class talent week-in, week-out. Don't worry if you miss a home game though, as there are stadium tours every day, with an opportunity to see behind the scenes of a club that has been home to players like Ossie Ardiles, Gary Lineker and Jurgen Klinsmann. After you’re done, head back to the middle of Chigwell and take lunch at Pipino's, a little Italian eatery that brings a slice of the Mediterranean straight to the heart of Essex.
If you're not too full, a short walk from the centre of Chigwell takes you to Hainault Forest Country Park. Awarded Green Flag status by the Keep Britain Tidy campaign, Hainault has something to offer all the family. People who want to get closer to nature can download guided trails onto their phone, giving them an expert tour around the lush woodlands. Those who want to find their sea legs can hire boats on the lake, while people who prefer the shore can spend the day fishing. Children might be the happiest of all here; with a choice of ceramic painting, a land train and a farm and zoo with a collection of animals to rival the ark, you might just find they never want to leave. Entry to the park is free, and there is a small charge for all-day car parking if you decide to arrive with a vehicle.
After all the outdoors activity of the afternoon, a good meal is in order, and the fantastic Bluebell Restaurant offers the finest in British and continental cuisine. With a choice of a la carte or taster menus, the Bluebell is a treat for even the most discerning of customers. A visit to Chigwell's Topgolf venue can round off the day. Topgolf is a new concept, where players stay in the clubhouse and play different games all based around hitting balls varying distances to try and get as close as possible to a target somewhere down the range. Testing good golfing technique as well as allowing beginners to participate too, Topgolf is a brilliant spin on golf that can be played well into the night. Just be aware; too much time at the bar doesn't always help your short game! As you can see, there’s no shortage of attractions to keep you entertained here, so why not book a stay at Hallmark Hotel London Chigwell Prince Regent?
