24-Hour Party People: The 10 Best Places to Eat, Drink & Party in Manchester

There’s never been a better time to eat, drink and party in Manchester. The city’s restaurant scene is growing at a faster rate than anywhere else in the country, while the selection of brilliant bars and magnificent music venues is already legendary. Confronted with so much choice, it was hard to whittle this list down to 10, but we just about managed to find our favourites.
  1. Manchester House

Located in Spinningfields’ Tower 12, Manchester House looks like an ordinary city building from the outside. Inside it’s a totally different story. Spread across two levels, the venue effortlessly blends fine dining and fun to deliver one of the funkiest places to go out in Manchester. Whether you want to eat or drink, Manchester House offers the best of both.
  1. Volta

Owned by the same people that ran the fabled Electric Chair parties, this multi-award-winning restaurant channels the goodtime vibes of Manchester’s clubbing legacy. When visiting, you’ll find a welcoming atmosphere that confidently dances to its own beat and a delicious menu influenced by global cuisine. Alex Shaw, Volta’s head chef, also recently won Chef of the Year at the Manchester Food and Drink Festival awards.
  1. Almost Famous

Almost Famous is all set to achieve full-blown stardom. One for meat lovers, the restaurant has stood at the forefront of the city’s recent burger boom. To illustrate this point, the venue’s latest menu features a gut-busting selection of meaty indulgences. Our recommendation? The “Everyone’s Got a Gun in Texas” burger, which essentially equals a Redneck platter in a bun.
  1. Mr Thomas’s Chop House

Manchester’s thriving restaurant scene has seen a whole host of shiny new establishments rise from the ground up. Framed against this backdrop, the old-world charm of this eatery’s Grade II listed building offers a crumb of traditional comfort. Luckily, the Chop House’s ‘best of British’ style menu is as pleasing to the taste buds as the venue’s surroundings are to the eyes.
  1. Kosmonaut

Located in the popular Northern Quarter, Kosmonaut is a modern, trendy watering hole with a laidback vibe. Housed in an old cotton warehouse, the venue’s three rooms are each stripped back to the brick, while the light fittings are imported from defunct communist factories. During the weekends, cultured live acts play against this industrial aesthetic to the joy of many late-night revellers.
  1. Allotment Bar

Aptly named, the Allotment Bar takes it cues from the greener side of life. Expect to see hanging baskets, potted plants and a bar made of corrugated iron with its own herb garden. No one will deny that this bar puts a different spin on the traditional idea of a beer garden, but with a full array of tantalising tipples on offer, this is botanical-inspired boozing at its finest.
  1. The Wharf

The Wharf delivers a great backdrop to experience live music. There are regular folk music nights hosted by The Travelling Band, plus a selection of resident DJs mixing everything from funk and soul to something a little more full-on. With its waterfront setting, cosy nooks and crannies, top-notch pub grub, and full-flavoured variety of pints and shorts, The Wharf is one of Manchester’s most lively pubs.
  1. Dive NQ

This subterranean bar is a charming homage to American cuisine and culture. The restaurant section is furbished entirely from reclaimed wood, while the food and liquor is influenced by southern soul. As one of the few places in the Northern Quarter to have a 5am licence, Drive NQ is a great spot for those who like to party into the small hours.
  1. Band on the Wall

Part of Manchester’s legendary music scene for the best part of a century, Band on the Wall continues to bring exceptional live performances to the masses. From local bands and up-and comers to famous names, Band on the Wall hosts them all. For a full list of upcoming performers, click here.
  1. Night & Day Cafe

Last year, Night & Day Cafe celebrated its 25th birthday. In that time, the venue has helped launch some of biggest bands around today, including Elbow, Arctic Monkeys, and the Manic Street Preachers. As an iconic venue for munch and melodies, Night & Day Cafe has few rivals. For a full list of upcoming performers, click here.
