Afternoon tea is a quintessential British pastime that has been part of our nation’s culture for centuries. However, did you know...
The origins of afternoon tea can be traced back to 1840, when dinner was taken late in the evening. Anna Russell, the seventh Duchess of Bedford, couldn’t deal with the hunger pangs caused by only eating twice a day. She came up with a solution to take tea and a snack in the afternoon at 4pm. This was first conducted in private in her bedroom, before acquaintances began to join her and it later became a national tradition which still stands today. Source: HH Afternoon Tea alternatives
