Hallmark Hotel's staff take the plunge in aid of charity

In order to raise a decent sum of money for charity, something extreme has to be done. It has to have the fear factor and require a certain degree of mental strength, for people to want to donate.

With this is mind, Hallmark’s General Manager Helen Hall and Reservations Co-ordinator Bonny Bassi thought it would be a good idea last weekend to fall 11,000ft from an aeroplane in the sky. The adrenalin junkie duo wanted to do something so different, they went ahead and organised a Bournemouth skydive.

On 8th October, Helen and Bonny both took deep breaths to prepare themselves for the freefall. After a minute of plummeting thousands of feet, they opened their parachutes bringing them back down to land.

Hallmark Hotel has a strong working relationship with Julia’s House, Dorset’s only hospice dedicated to children with life limiting conditions. Over the years the Hotel has raised vast sums of money for Julia’s House as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility Programme.

With the money raised it will contribute to enable Julia’s House to open the hospice for 24 hour care at the weekends, run more social events for the families and increase the amount of care hours they can provide.

Hallmark General Manager Helen Hall said: “We’re always trying to think of new ways to raise money. We make sure Julia’s House envelopes are displayed in our reception area in the hope that people will spare their loose change, as everything makes a difference. The skydive was absolutely brilliant, but on the day I don’t admitting I was a nervous wreck. I had never done anything like this before, so it was a tough challenge but I felt ready for it.”
