The village of Flitwick – pronounced ‘Flit-ick’ is mentioned in the Domesday Book as a ‘hamlet on the River Flitt’. Flitwick Wood, an ancient woodland has enjoyable walks and scenery. Flitwick Moor is the largest area of wetland in Bedfordshire. This nature reserve is home to many birds and dragonflies. Houghton House is a grand 17th century mansion built in 1621. Wrest Park House set in 90 acres of pretty gardens, originally laid out in the 18th century and later re-worked by Capability Brown, has marble fountains and an orangery. The 12th century motte-and-bailey Castle is just a few miles away.
