Eat and drink

When you have an acclaimed award-winning chef you need a memorable setting to showcase their kitchen artistry. Step forward the Glasshouse, a rather beautiful product of the recent multi-million pound refurbishment of the Best Western Hallmark Hotel Liverpool Alicia. Its floor to ceiling windows, overlooking tranquil gardens and parkland, are fused with exposed brick walls, wood floors and contemporary furniture beneath classical busts and canopy of twinkling lights. It’s just lovely.

We think it’s the perfect environment to sample the menu of chef Ian Goss and his talented kitchen team. You’ll find the likes of spiced lamb tagine, pan fried seabass fillet, Teriyaki salmon and mushroom ravioli, alongside beer battered local fish and chips, Kansas style bbq glazed spare ribs, 10oz ribeye steaks and our signature burgers. If you’ve any room left, you can try our refreshing lemon tart with clotted cream or our banana split sundae with sticky toffee fudge ice cream and whipped cream.

If the weather’s in a charitable mood – we can promise many thinks in the Northwest but sunshine is sometimes elusive! – you can combine your meal with an aperitif in our sculpture garden. More reliably, you can enjoy a drink in our coolly converted Edwardian bar with its mellow wood, quirky design flourishes and lovely windows opening onto a decked terrace.

Signature dish: Ian's Chilli con carne  

How to make Ian Goss's signature dish at home

Ingredients:

2 tbsp olive oil | 2 onions, chopped | 2 garlic cloves, crushed | 1kg (2 1/4lb) lean minced beef | 2 glasses red wine | 1x400g can red kidney beans | 2x400g cans chopped tomatoes | 1 green pepper, roughly chopped | 3 tbsp tomato purée | 2 red chillies, thinly sliced, or 3-4 tsp dried chilli flakes | 1 tsp ground cumin | 1 tsp ground coriander | 1 cinnamon stick | Dash of Worcestershire sauce | 1 beef stock cube | Salt and freshly ground black pepper | 1 large bunch coriander leaves, roughly chopped | Plain yogurt, sour cream or creme fraiche

Method:

1. Fry the onion and garlic in a large, heavy saucepan until softened.
2. Turn up the heat and add the mince, cooking quickly until browned and breaking down any chunks with a wooden spoon.
3. Pour in the wine and boil for 2-3 mins.
4. Add the tomatoes, green pepper, tomato purée, ground coriander, chilli, cumin, cinnamon
5. Add the Worcestershire sauce and crumble in the stock cube. Add salt and pepper to taste
6. Bring to a simmer, cover with a lid and cook over a low heat for about an hour, stirring occasionally until the mixture is thick.
7. Add the kidney beans and fresh coriander. Cook for a further 10 mins, uncovered, before removing from the heat.
8. Top each portion of chilli con carne with a dollop of plain yogurt, sour cream or creme fraiche
9. Serve with rice, baked potatoes or crusty bread and a green salad.
10. Enjoy

Healthy option on our menu: For your main course, why not try our delicious Superfood Salad - roasted squash, red peppers, quinoa, edamame beans, baby kale, pomegranate and chilli-roasted seeds, with a balsamic, raspberry and black pepper dressing.


Breakfast

We offer a delicious breakfast buffet, including cooked and continental breakfast items. We are more than happy to provide table service for our guests on request. We also offer a wide choice of dishes cooked to order like omelettes, poached haddock, porridge, kippers and poached eggs. Vegetarian breakfast options are also available.

  • Saturday: 08.00 – 10.00
  • Sunday: 08.00 – 10.00

We also serve continental breakfast throughout the night via room service. We are fully flexible with our breakfast service times, as we don`t want our guests to miss their breakfast because…

24 Hour room service

All our menus are available for room service delivery, between 10.00 and 22.00. After 22.00, we offer our takeaway menu with pizzas, hot dogs, nachos and sandwiches. We also offer a 24 hour drinks room service for our residents.
