Last week we kicked off our run down of the UK’s best Christmas markets, all of which are within easy reach of our various hotel sites. Keen not to fall behind as the seasonal shopping period gets into full swing, we’re following that up with two more locations, both of which should mean you’re decking the halls and downing mulled wine like a crazed elf who got lost somewhere between Santa’s grotto and the toy workshop.
Stratford-Upon-Avon for Stratford Christmas Markets and Festival
From: 14th November – early January
Perhaps surprisingly, given its size, Stratford is one of the most visited towns in England by foreign tourists, who flock here because, let’s face it, few places in the country are more historic or well-preserved.
Known the world over as the home of Shakespeare, it’s not all theatrics, comedies and tragedies, though. Architecturally speaking, Stratford-Upon-Avon offers stunning old world timber buildings in abundance, all of which set the scene perfectly when the snow starts to fall. Talk about being transported to a truly atmospheric winter wonderland.
Even if the white stuff doesn’t make an appearance don’t be disheartened. Thanks to a huge programme of Christmas-related goings on, it’s impossible not to get into the festive spirit whilst in the area. Markets take place on Thursdays (Bridge Street), Fridays, Saturdays (Rother Street), and Sundays (Waterside). Meanwhile Santa’s Grotto can be found at Enchanted Manor and Magic Alley, and, from Boxing Day, you can call round at Scrooge’s house to see a man transformed by the season of goodwill. Ah, nice.
